An old forgotten draft post - Bathroom Art!

Way back when we moved into the new house, I dreamed of a custom art piece for my powder room.  One kitschy and cute, vintage (of course), with bright colors and a sly bit of humor.

A friend of mine had some vintage packing crate labels and was gracious enough to allow me to scan them in and use them for my project.

If you know me, I love sly humor.  Most people don't get half of what I'm finding humorous, but hey, it's not about them is it?!

So, I ended up with this:

Blushing Melons
Green Head
Moon Brand Oranges
Buxom Melons
Leilani Avocados
Honey

Now, put those together with the powder room.  Does anybody else get my humor?  D doesn't appreciate it, but I love my DIY art!

That's one reason to paint the bathroom...

I got a wild hair last week.  Back in late summer, I won a My Color by Pantone blog contest, and finally received my paints a couple of weeks ago.  I had chosen:

Cloudburst

Medieval Blue

Ocean Depths

These colors are so gorgeous!  Click on any of the cans to go to the MyColor inspired by Pantone page to see all of the choices.

Anyway, back to my wild hair.  So, I fully intended to just paint a swatch on the wall of the powder room, live with the color and paint it out later.  I suppose I felt I did not have enough on my plate, what with a birthday party at the house in less than 48 hours, a full day of work, and a serious lack of proper tools for this job.

You know me - I did it anyway!  I pulled out a brush, some of my trusty FrogTape and the little pots of Ocean Depths and got to it.

I have to say, I adore this color.  It's so bold and fun - but still calming.  This is a really tiny room, only about 3 feet by 7 feet, and I wanted to really go crazy in here.  I had already put up some of my DIY artwork,

And thought that I needed more of a punch behind it than the previous wall was giving.  See the blah green?  How much better is this blue?

I did one coat and touch-up with the paint I had on hand.  I have about a foot below the ceiling to finish up, and a little behind the toilet (I may let the boys take that on!) but I'm waiting for more paint (it's not available in town yet - boo!)  I'll update this post when the room is finally done and decorated.

My husband calls it the smurf bathroom, but the rest of us are loving the new color.  Thanks for the paint Pantone!

*Legal stuff: I was not compensated for this post.  I won the paint, and all the opinions are my own.

Gifts for boys - Lego boxes!

Unfortunately, I didn't take any "real" before pics of these little boxes.  They are so cute though!  I picked these up on Thanksgiving afternoon at Michael's for under a dollar apiece!  I saw this idea on Pinterest a while back, and decided to make them for the boys for Christmas this year.  Other than the necessity of doing the painting at night after the boys were in bed, I think this is one of the easiest crafts I've done in a while.  Just required some (ahem), PAINT AND PATIENCE.

They turned out so cute - I used paints I had on hand already, and bought a Lego baseplate at Target for about 7 bucks.  All in all, I think I spent about $3 each on these storage boxes, plus the cost of the Lego vehicle (small kits) that I bought to go inside.

The baseplate cut easily - I just scored it with a utility knife and bent it to break.  I used hot glue to adhere to the top of the box and VOILA!  instant portable Lego storage!

I really hope the boys enjoy these on Christmas and after!
